My Apologies to Steve

Saturday was a very busy day for my family because that was the day that we moved. After we finished I went to Austin’s Shoes and was looking around for some new shoes that I would wear everyday. My old shoes were worn out so it was time for a new pair. I decided on a pair of New Balance and really like them. I am hoping to go to Memphis next weekend to get those new running shoes that I was going to get a couple of weeks ago.

While looking around Austin’s Shoes I had a short conversation with Steve. Not sure if he was the owner or manager but we had a good conversation. He showed me some different shoes and we talked a little about weight loss. He told me about two things that you should do after losing weight. I can only remember one of them and will share it with you today. He said that best thing to do when you lose weight, especially if you’re a guy, is to get rid of your old clothes as they get too big. He told me that guys tend not to get back on the scale and when they start gaining weight their clothes don’t let them know that they are gaining. When you have smaller clothes and start gaining weight you do notice. Beside, guys are cheap and have a hard time of letting go of old clothes. Thanks Steve for the tips even though I forgot one of them

This week I also reached the 100 mile mark for the year. This was much faster than the first 100 miles that I walked.

As of this past Friday night I am official entered into the 5K in Jackson and the 10K in Corinth. Even though I had not entered yet but have been talking about it for a while, I had toldenough people who were holding me accountable to run in these races.

Remember that pound and a half that I had gained last week? One of them is gone and is not welcome back. That’s still a total loss of 35.4 pounds and I’m alright with that.

Thanks again for stopping and hope to see you here again next week.

Indoors or Outdoors?

Since most of January was really cold and I didn’t want to get out in the cold and run I went to the gym most of the time. A couple of times I did bundle up and run outside but for the most part it was at the gym where I worked out. Now that the weather in my neck of the woods has warmed up, for now anyway, I have been doing my running outdoors. I like being outside much better than the inside because of the fresh air. I also don’t wear earphones while running outside either. I like hearing the sounds of nature.

Last Friday I was waiting on my trailer to be loaded so I decided to get dressed and run for a little while. The route I chose was about 4.75 miles long and it was also a hard 4.75 miles. I didn’t enjoy it at all. On Saturday afternoon I went for another long run and enjoyed every minute of it. I ended up with only 4.42 miles because it was getting dark and my wife picked me up. We had some things that needed to get done.

One thing that I have decided about running outside and running on a treadmill is that they are not the same. I can easily run five or six miles on the treadmill but doing the same thing on the road takes a lot more effort. There is a big debate about the treadmill and if you get the same workout but I only going on personal experience. I’m still in training for the Coke 10K that is coming up on May 7th and I’m in week 7 of 17. I’m still running the 5K in April too.

I really don’t want to write this part of my post this week because it isn’t good. I did weigh this past weekend as normal. I didn’t see the change that I wanted but it is my fault. I gained 1.6 pounds last week. I’m not going to let that discourage me though because I’m still at 34.4 pounds lost and that is a big accomplishment within itself. I might could account for a fraction of the weight gain but I really don’t know what happened. I did make some poor food choices during the week but am doing better this week. The Lose It! app has me down to 1667 calories a day as of writing and some days I don’t feel that is enough calories. When I first started I was able to eat 1903 calories and wasn’t eating my exercise calories. Now that I’m down over 250 calories I’m eating a lot of those exercise calories.

That’s going to do it for me for this week. Have a great rest of the week and I’ll see you again next week.

Getting Butterflies

By the time you read this, my first official race will be less than 53 days away and I am getting more nervous as the time approaches. I am confident that if was tomorrow, I would be prepared physically but how do you prepare mentally for something like this? Since this is my first race I really don't know what to expect. I've never even walked in any kind race. I'm just going to go out there and do my best and remind myself what I have spent the last six months training for this day. If you have ran any races and would like to share some tips please feel free to leave them in the comments below. I'd like to read your take on it.

The past week was very busy for me and the icy weather didn't help much either. I ended up going to the gym on Thursday and Friday but had a great outdoor run on Saturday. Since I didn't have much time I only got 2 miles in but I did those at my fastest pace. I knocked those 2 miles out in 22:55.

More good news from the scales this week too. Another 3 pounds down so that makes my total of 36 pounds lost in four months. That only 9 pounds a month so that is just about right. Not too fast and gives me a better chance of keeping it off in the future. I don't think that I've revealed here in my blog how much I weighed but I have lost 14.9% of my body weight. You'll have to do the math.

Next weeks post will be delayed because I have a doctor's appointment on Monday morning. It's nothing serious at all. Just a little blood work and having my A1C checked to see how my sugar is doing. Hoping to get a great report.

That's going to do me again for this week. Thanks for dropping by and hope you will share your comments below.

Getting Around to It

I know last week I might have gotten on a few toes but from the comments, both on and offline, it was the truth.

This week I am going to eliminate all excuses once in for all. We are always talking about how we will do something when we get around to it. At the end of this post you will find a round TUIT. Simply print the page, cut it out and you can put it in your wallet or purse and you will will never have to make the excuse, "I will do it when I get a round TUIT."

This last week was a great week for me. I ran my longest distance at one time and for the week too. On Wednesday I ran for a total of 6 miles and for the week I ended up running a total of 18.5 miles. I also ran the full 3.11 miles on Saturday in 36:53. I didn't have to walk one time. On Sunday I ran almost the whole 5 miles and walked one time for about 4 minutes.

The scales were really good to me this past weekend too. I was down another 2 pounds for a total of 33 pounds. I am getting closer to my goal of 51.4 pounds. I love watching the numbers go down on the scales and seeing the little man at the top of this page making his way across to the finish line too.

That's going to do me for this week and I'll try to a little better job next week. Hope you all have a great one and I'll see you again soon.
